The Montgomery County Council recently reintroduced a "growth" policy which could have the opposite of its intended effect. Instead of easing traffic congestion and guiding growth to places accessible to transit, the policy could lead to major road widening and more scattered development - not to mention dangerous conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. The Coalition for Smarter Growth (CSG) is instead promoting a policy which supports well-designed, transit-oriented development and more transportation choices. (Taken from CSG's Growth Policy Statement.)
Get involved: write the County Council and say why M-83 Highway is a road whose time is past; and state how this 6-lane highway no longer benefits Montgomery County's green initiatives. Ask each Council Member for their stand on building M-83 Highway.
